Uber Bookkeeping and Accounting Made Simple

You are a pro at a lot of things, reading traffic and keeping your rating up during a surge. Bookkeeping is a different skill, and it does not need to be yours. Three questions come up with almost every driver we talk to. How much of that 1099-K did you actually keep? Do you owe the IRS quarterly? What happens to your books once Lyft or DoorDash joins the mix? We answer all three.

The Problem

  • How much of that 1099-K did you actually keep?

Uber's 1099-K reports gross fares, including Uber's own fees, commission, and any tolls it collected, none of which you actually kept.

  • Do you owe the IRS quarterly?

Nothing is withheld from your Uber payouts, so the 15.3% self-employment tax surprises a lot of first-year drivers.

  • What happens when Lyft or DoorDash joins the mix?

Uber is rarely the only app on a driver's phone. We know this and have dealt with this.

What You Get

  1. 01

    We Speak Uber

We work with rideshare drivers every week, so we already know a 1099-K from a 1099-NEC before you finish explaining your question.

  2. 02

    We Untangle the 1099-K

Your 1099-K includes Uber's own fees, tolls, and commission, money you never received. We separate what you kept from what you never saw.

  3. 03

    We Know the Deduction Playbook

Tolls, parking, car washes, your phone plan, a dashcam, floor mats, we catch the deductions drivers usually miss.

  4. 04

    Multi-App Ready

Driving for more than one platform does not multiply your bookkeeping headache. We combine every app into one reconciled set of books.

What We Deliver

Book a Meeting
  1. Income and Expense Tracking

Every fare, tip, toll, and Uber fee gets categorized against your bank and card statements each month.

    Monthly

  2. Mileage Tracking

GPS-verified mileage logs, plus a one-time choice between the standard mileage rate and actual vehicle expenses, whichever saves more.

    Ongoing

  3. 1099-K and 1099-NEC Reconciliation

Uber sends a 1099-K for rider payments and a 1099-NEC for bonuses. We reconcile both against your deposits so you report what you actually earned.

    Annual

  4. Quarterly Estimated Taxes

Nothing is withheld from your payouts, so we calculate what you owe each quarter and file your Form 1040-ES on time.

    Quarterly

  5. Schedule C Tax Preparation

Your rideshare income gets filed on a Schedule C, with every deduction you qualify for built in from the start.

    Annual

  6. Multi-App Bookkeeping

Drive for Lyft, DoorDash, Instacart, or Amazon Flex too? We track each platform separately, then combine them into one clean set of books.

    Ongoing

  7. Entity Guidance

Sole proprietor or LLC? We show you whether forming an entity actually lowers your tax bill at your income level.

    As needed

Uber Driver Bookkeeping, Explained

Most of what costs Uber drivers money at tax time is not a missing receipt, it is a handful of details that rarely get explained clearly.

The biggest decision you will make is whether to claim the standard mileage rate or your actual vehicle expenses, gas, insurance, depreciation, and repairs. The choice is partly locked in during your vehicle's first year of business use, and it is usually worth thousands either way.

Uber's 1099-K reports gross fares, including Uber's own fees, commission, and any tolls it collected, none of which you actually kept. Drivers who report that figure as-is pay tax on money they never received. We reconcile it against your deposits so that never happens.

Miles between drop-offs and pickups, or toward a busier zone, are deductible business miles even without a passenger. Miles from home to your first fare are commuting miles, and those are not deductible.

Nothing is withheld from your Uber payouts, so the 15.3% self-employment tax surprises a lot of first-year drivers. We build it into your quarterly estimate so it is never an April surprise.

  • Tolls
  • Parking
  • Car washes
  • Your phone and data plan
  • A dashcam
  • Floor mats and seat covers
  • Uber's own service fees

Most drivers also qualify for the 20% qualified business income deduction. Full-time owner-drivers may have depreciation or Section 179 options worth exploring, and multi-state drivers get their fares tracked by state.
