Who This Is For
Businesses paying contractors and freelancers
If your business paid a contractor, freelancer, or vendor $2,000 or more this year for services, you are the one who files, not them.
Ecommerce brands
Brands paying affiliates or contract marketers above the filing threshold.
Property managers and law firms
Property managers paying maintenance and repair vendors, and law firms and businesses paying outside attorneys.
The Problem
Vendors entered by hand
Most 1099 software leaves you entering every vendor yourself.
TINs matched on your own
You match names and tax IDs yourself, before a mismatch turns into a rejection.
Rejections caught late
Rejected filings surface as a March surprise instead of while there is time to fix them.
W-9s that never come back
You chase vendors who never sent back a W-9, and filing stalls until they do.
Here is what changes.

Before
You enter vendors by hand, match TINs, catch rejected filings, and chase vendors who never sent back a W-9. Problems tend to surface as a March surprise, and the January 31 deadline arrives whether or not the list is ready.

Book a filing consultation1099 Filing, Explained
If your business paid a contractor, freelancer, or vendor $2,000 or more this year for services, you are the one who files, not them. The contractor receives a copy as their own income record. Your business is the filer of record with the IRS.
That covers more businesses than the phrase "1099 filing" suggests. If your business cuts checks to people not on payroll, this page is about your side of that transaction.
Most 1099 software makes you do the work yourself, entering vendors by hand, matching TINs, and catching rejected filings before they become a March surprise. Monily removes that step.
Upload your vendor list and payment totals, and we take it from there. We collect outstanding W-9s directly from your vendors, run every TIN against the IRS database before anything gets filed, prepare the forms, and file with the IRS and the states that require a separate filing. Recipient copies go out on time, corrections get handled the same way the original filing did, and you get a confirmation record for every form once it is accepted. No software to learn, no spreadsheet to reconcile against a filing portal, and no year-end scramble to find vendors who never sent back a W-9.
Gross proceeds paid to an attorney (Box 10) keep the $600 threshold under Section 6045(f), separate from the new $2,000 threshold, which applies only to attorney fees for services on Form 1099-NEC.
January 31 is the date that matters most. It is the deadline to send 1099-NEC copies to your contractors and to file 1099-NEC with the IRS, on paper or electronically, with no automatic extension available on the IRS side. 1099-MISC recipient copies are also due January 31, except when Box 8 (substitute payments) or Box 10 (attorney gross proceeds) is used, which pushes the recipient deadline to February 15. The IRS filing deadline follows on February 28 for paper and March 31 for electronic filing regardless of which boxes are used.
Two threshold changes take effect for payments made starting January 1, 2026, under tax legislation passed in 2025.
A contractor you paid $1,200 this year may no longer need a form once the new threshold applies, though the $600 rule still governs any 2025 payments not yet filed. Monily tracks both changes so your filing reflects the rule in effect for the payments you made.
| Form | Threshold change |
|---|---|
| 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC | Rises from $600 to $2,000 per vendor, per year. |
| 1099-K | Reverts to $20,000 and more than 200 transactions, retroactive to 2022. |
"Costly penalties" is not a number. Here is the actual tier structure the IRS applies per form, based on how late the filing is.
Every other tier carries an annual cap tied to business size, but intentional disregard does not, and it applies whether a form was never filed or was filed with information the IRS considers knowingly wrong. A single missed contractor rarely triggers that tier. A pattern of ignoring the requirement does.
| When | Penalty |
|---|---|
| Within 30 days of the deadline | $60 per form |
| 31 days late through August 1 | $130 per form |
| After August 1, or not filed at all | $340 per form |
| Intentional disregard of the filing requirement | $680 per form, with no annual maximum |
The three forms cover different money and different payers. 1099-NEC is for a business paying an individual contractor or unincorporated business for services, the form most companies mean when they say "1099 filing." 1099-MISC covers payments that are not compensation for services, things like rent, legal settlements, prizes, and payments to an attorney for something other than legal fees, which stay at the $600 threshold rather than the new $2,000 rule. 1099-K works differently from the other two, it is filed by the payment platform itself, not by the business that used it, so a business rarely files a 1099-K but often receives one and needs it reconciled against its own books.
Vendor names, TINs, and payment data move through a secure platform, with access limited to the team working your filing. Monily is an IRS CAA. Nothing is emailed as a spreadsheet, and nothing sits in a shared folder longer than the filing takes.
Your 1099 filing sits alongside bookkeeping, tax preparation, and payroll, so the vendor totals come from books our own team keeps and the filing reflects the rule in effect for the payments you made.
