The Problem
Cash vs. Accrual Accounting
Cash tracks money in and out, while accrual tracks what the company earns and owes.
Investor-Ready Books
Investors, lenders, and auditors expect accrual-based financials, and switching mid-raise costs more.
A Funded-Ready Chart of Accounts
Track spending by function, not just vendor, to avoid costly restructuring as the company grows.

Pricing and what moves it
SaaS accounting and bookkeeping pricing is custom to your company, not a one-size-fits-all package. Your fee is set by your billing complexity, transaction volume, number of contracts and revenue streams, and the reporting you need. Every quote is given up front on a short call, so you know the cost before any work begins.

Book a MeetingStartup Accounting, Explained
A funded company carries deferred revenue, prepaid vendor contracts, equity that has to be expensed, and a capital structure that changes with every round. The close has to reflect all of it before anyone outside the company looks.
The monthly rhythm itself is ordinary. Reconcile every bank, card, and payment account. Book accruals for what has been incurred but not paid. Close on a set date, issue statements. What makes it startup work is the accrual discipline and the paper trail behind each number.
Three triggers settle it. You have closed a round and investors expect accrual books. Transaction volume has outgrown the spreadsheet and categorization has become guesswork. Or a first audit, tax filing, or diligence request is coming and the records were never built to be examined.
Founders who wait past all three pay twice: once for the cleanup, and again in the time it eats while a round is live.
Federal filings run on a fixed schedule: Form 1120 for a C corporation, 1120-S for an S corporation, 1065 for a partnership or multi-member LLC, plus quarterly estimates once there is taxable income.
The state layer catches most founders. Your state of incorporation wants an annual report, and in many states a franchise tax that is owed whether or not there was revenue. A remote hire creates a payroll registration and often an income tax nexus in that state. Selling across state lines creates economic nexus for sales tax at thresholds that vary state by state.
None of it is hard alone. It gets hard when three registrations, two estimates, and an annual report land in the same six weeks with nobody tracking them.
The federal research credit is claimed on Form 6765, and a qualified small business can elect to apply up to $500,000 of it against employer payroll taxes rather than income tax. That matters for a pre-revenue company with no tax liability to offset. The election has to be made on an original, timely filed return; it cannot be added by amendment later, and it flows to your quarterly Form 941 on Form 8974.
Section 174A separately restored immediate expensing of domestic research costs for tax years beginning after December 31, 2024, ending the five-year amortization that squeezed startup cash flow from 2022 through 2024. Foreign research costs are still amortized over fifteen years, so where the work happens changes the answer.
Both depend on payroll and vendor data being coded correctly during the year rather than reconstructed in March.
A SAFE is not revenue, and on the day it lands it is usually not equity either. Where it sits on the balance sheet depends on its terms, and getting that wrong makes the equity section unreadable at the next round. Convertible notes carry interest and a maturity date, both of which need accruing.
Stock options create a separate obligation under ASC 718. The expense runs through your income statement over the vesting period at grant-date fair value, which is where your 409A valuation feeds in. We do not perform 409A valuations. We take your provider's report, book the expense correctly, and keep equity records reconciled to your cap table.
Revenue recognition under ASC 606 is where subscription businesses most often diverge from their bank statements. An annual contract collected upfront is cash today and revenue across twelve months, and deferred revenue is one of the first balances a diligence team reconciles.
After that come the board meeting numbers: net burn, runway at the current burn, gross margin, and the cost structure underneath it. These are outputs of a clean accrual close. When the books are current they take minutes to produce; when they are not, the answer arrives late and gets questioned.
About a third of new clients arrive behind. We scope how far back the gaps run, quote the catch up as a one-time project separate from the monthly fee, and finish it before the monthly rhythm starts.
That covers reconstructing prior periods, rebuilding a chart of accounts that grew without a plan, tying out opening balances, and clearing the uncategorized bucket. You get a written summary of what was wrong and what changed. Second entities and foreign subsidiaries stay on separate books and consolidate, because that is how an auditor or an acquirer wants to see them.
